The Community Cat

Hildegard, our community cat is a very fine cat indeed! And, just like all cats manages to ‘rules the roost’ in our community house!

She is named after the twelfth century German Abbess, Hildegard von Bingen, visionary, theologian, musician, and medic.

A prolific writer of letters, visionary texts, and medical and scientific books, Hildegard advised Popes and Prelates as well as guarding and guiding the physical and spiritual life of her nuns in the abbey at Rupertsberg near Bingen.

Hildegard von Bingen’s feast day is 17th September.

Hildegard the cat can neither write books nor play a musical instrument but she is well versed in the art of human manipulation (which means, of course, she always gets her own way!)
