So, just what is a pilgrimage?

Pilgrimage is an ancient practice and it’s a phenomenon found in all major religious traditions. It involves a journey, a journey from a familiar to an unfamiliar place, from everyday routine to a new experience, to a location that is special – often difficult to reach.

A pilgrimage, the object of which is God and the fullness of eternal life with God, 

and it is this to which the actual physical pilgrimages point. A case of “are we there yet?” to which the answer must be we shall never be “there” for when we are we shall be here!
